Fifth Russian Culture Week in Cascais

On October 16, the opening ceremony of the “Fifth Week of Russian Culture in Portugal” took place in Cascais, which will last until October 21. In addition to the royal parishes of the Moscow Patriarchate in Portugal, Archpriest John Gerbovetsky, other clerics of the Korsun diocese, as well as a representative of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia under the Patriarch of Antioch and the whole of the East, Abbess Arseny Sokolov, who devoted more than 10 years to serving in Portugal, took part in it. The opening ceremony was also attended by the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Portugal M. Kamynin, the Mayor of Cascais K. Carreiras, the President of the Russian them Foundation. P.M.Tretyakova V.M.Bekhtiyev and his Portuguese partners in the organization of the “Week of Culture” – the heads of the Sharing Foundation funds S.Santos and Dom Luís I S.Teles de Menezes, as well as the head of the Center of Russian Art and Culture (Cascais) I. Marcel Kurt.

During the speeches, the need for further Russian-Portuguese cultural cooperation was repeatedly stressed, which is especially important on the eve of the 240th anniversary of diplomatic relations between states. The special role of Orthodoxy and Russian parishes in Portugal in the development of Russian-Portuguese relations was also voiced.

The opening also included a presentation of a special issue of the Russian Culture magazine in Portuguese, dedicated to the connection between the cultures of Portugal and Russia.

At the end of the ceremony a concert of the piano quartet “Moscow” took place.
